1.The “Proprietary Blend”: Does the diet supplement you are looking at “combine” all of its ingredients into a “Proprietary Blend”? Thought so. The company I used to work for claimed that it was to “protect” their research. I would laugh, because there was no research. 2.Clinically “Proven” Ingredients: More “legitimate” diet supplements will cite clinical studies done on specific active ingredients on their labels and websites. These clinical studies add a lot of credibility to specific claims made by manufacturers. But guess what? In order to LEGALLY make these claims the diet supplement must contain the same amount of the active ingredient that was used in the clinical study. Now… How are you supposed to know how much of that ingredient is in your diet supplement if it is HIDDEN in some Proprietary Blend? There is no way to know! The truth is these products contain so LITTLE of the actual ingredient that they will literally have NO EFFECT on your body unless you take the CORRECT amount! In my experience, companies won’t give you the correct amount because it is TOO EXPENSIVE. That’s right.. in order to maintain their profit margins and keep products at a competitive price, they are shorting you on ingredients that really work!!!
3. “Scientific” Names: This is a great tactic used by supplement companies. Take a “common” ingredient and use its “scientific” name to make the “Average Consumer” think that their product contains “medicine-like” ingredients…when it may be nothing more than overpriced black pepper, green tea, caffeine or Vitamin B! My favorite one is TriMethylXanthine. Sounds legit right? TriMethlyXanthine is the MOST COMMON ingredient used in fat burners – Caffeine.
These are just a FEW examples of the ways that the “Big Boys” use tricky marketing tactics against us “average” consumers in order to convince us that their fat burner really is the best.
